Listen Out is Australia’s primary national dance music festival, which tours a dynamic hip-hop/electronic line-up, attracting over 200,000 patrons each year.

I had the pleasure of developing the branding for the 2023 tour.

The Brief: Refresh the branding of Listen Out, introduce more colours, moving away from dark and broody look from 2022.

The Execution: Lightly based on subway maps and circuitboards, I wanted to mirror the grungy feeling of the subway to reflect that of hip-hop and electronic music, but keep with the brief of being bright and somewhat inspirational. Hence, the “pipes” were born. These pipes have been animated to be reminiscent of pulses of energy into circuitboards. Though the branding and overall graphic design was produced by myself, Storyboarding and major animation was produced by Vandal, and videos were edited by Leo Kaczmarek.

This branding design received very positive feedback from the client, and parent company in the UK, and I can easily say it’s one of my favourite projects to date.
